In 2018, the New England Beard Company was born out of necessity. I found that while there were a lot of manufacturers of good beard products out there, I wanted to use one that was certified “Wicked Good!”
I wanted to uncover the ever-elusive formula for the beard balm that was not too stiff, not too sloppy, but just right (think Goldilocks). After nailing that down, it was on to scents.
Essential oils are a critical component in how a beard product smells. Never confuse “essential oils” with “fragrance oils.” They’re NOT the same. Essential oils are naturally steam rendered, while fragrance oils tend to be petroleum-based and nothing you want on your body. I only use the purest and highest-quality essential oils available in New England Beard Company products.
Finally came the names, and that was pretty easy. Like the creations themselves, I kept it local, giving each of my creations a tag that tips its hat to the iconic locations that, in my humble opinion, make New England the greatest corner of the world in which to live. I grew up on the coast of Maine and relocated to Massachusetts, and when I’m not crafting up the best beard balm, I work for one of the region’s leading radio stations.
The New England Beard Company is located in Plymouth, Massachusetts, about three miles west of Plymouth Rock as the Seagull flies, and also maintains its Southern Command in Vero Beach, Florida. It’s not a big company, but I like to think it makes a big difference in America’s beards!
